SINGAPORE POLICE RETIREES' ASSOCIATION

The idea of forming an association consisting of retirees from SPF was first mooted in 1991. A small committee, comprising some retirees and a few serving officers was formed. However, it did not take off.

In 1999, the Commissioner of Police suggested the revival of the plan for a Retirees' Association. In Nov 2000, a pro-temp committee headed by ex AC of police, Mr L .Thambiah was formed and began to prepare the groundwork in earnest. PHQ agreed to jump start the formation of the Association with a financial grant of $30k for the first two years. Manpower Department also rendered invaluable assistance in administrative and logistic support in the initial stages.

After much hard work by the committee, the Singapore Police Retirees' Association (SPRA) was officially registered as a Society with the Registry of Societies on 5 Nov 2003. On 26 Mar 2004, it was officially launched by the Commissioner of Police. The ceremony was held at the SPANs-JOM Clubhouse.
