Indonesian Trio Arrested for Carrying Out Fraudulent Retail Purchases Using Counterfeit Credit Cards

Three Indonesians were arrested yesterday evening at Funan The IT Shopping Mall for carrying out fraudulent retail purchases using counterfeit credit cards.

At about 5.45 p.m. yesterday, Police received information that three persons were carrying out fraudulent retail purchases using counterfeit credit cards. Based on information received, officers from the Commercial Affairs Department arrested a 33 year old man and two women aged 35 and 42 years old.

Police recovered $30,000 worth of goods which included electrical goods, IT equipment and clothing which were believed to have been purchased with the counterfeit credit cards. Thirty counterfeit credit cards were also recovered from the trio

The trio had arrived in Singapore on 13 Jan 2006 on social visit passes. They will be charged in Court on 17 Jan 2006 for cheating and possession of forged valuable security under the Penal Code.

Police would like to take this opportunity to remind merchants to be alert when processing credit card transactions. They should look out for the various security features on the card face. If they are suspicious, they should contact their processing bank immediately for advice.
