Tremors Reported

Earth tremors were reported in certain parts of Singapore at about 11.55 am on 6th March 2007.

The Police and the SCDF have received about 800 calls from the public reporting these tremors.

Metereological Services confirmed that an earthquake occurred in Central Sumatra and registered 6.6 on the Richter scale. The public is advised that there is no cause for alarm.

The SCDF advises the public that should they experience any tremors, the procedures to follow are:-

a	Be calm

b	If you are inside a building -
	i	Keep away from items made of glass or any hanging object
	ii	Do not use the lift
	iii	Do not use any naked light, in case there is a gas leak

c	If you are out in the open, stay there.

d	After vibrations have stopped -
	i	Stay away from any exposed electrical cables, hanging glass objects
	ii	Report any gas leakage
	iii	Help the injured, call SCDF if the injuries are significant
	iv	Report any incidents or issues of law and order to the Police
