In line with the aim to heighten public's awareness on crime prevention, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and SingTel have joined hands in launching a SMS Crime Alert service. Through this service, SingTel would help disseminate crime-related messages to the general public. For the time being, the service would be provided free of charge to all its postpaid customers for three months.
Customers who register for the service will receive SMS messages alerting them to criminal cases that have occurred, as well as crime prevention tips. For example, residents in the neighbourhood where a crime has been committed will be able to take precautionary measures after being alerted.
“SingTel is committed to helping to create a safer community and we are delighted to be part of this initiative that can help prevent crime and raise public awareness,” said Low Ka Hoe, Director of IPTV & Content, SingTel. “Preventing crime is not the sole responsibility of the police, but a combined effort by all members of the community. We are very pleased to be able to provide the information and resources to facilitate this.”
Superintendent of Police Evon Ng, Assistant Director (Community Involvement), Operations Department, SPF, added : "Riding on the high handphone penetration rate, we are very glad that SingTel has come onboard this community project. With Singtel being one of the main players in the telecommunication industry with a big subscriber base, we can be sure that our crime prevention messages would reach out to a much wider community."
This SMS Crime Alert service is optional for present SingTel's post-paid customers. Customers can subscribe to SMS Crime Alerts by dialing *127. For more information, please refer to http://www.ideas.singtel.com/
