Police arrested a 19-year-old Myanmar man, believed to be responsible for multiple property offences, at a school located along Dover Road yesterday at about 7.30pm with the assistance of a school manager.
On 21 Jan 2008 at about 5.30 pm, Mr Kamaludeen, a manager in the school spotted the suspect stealing DVDs from the library. He immediately detained the suspect and called for the Police.
From items, such as a laptop, bank cards and house keys, found in the suspect’s possession, Police managed to link him to a break-in at the school earlier the same day. Thorough investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be responsible for more than 6 counts of theft and related offences which occurred in the school over the last 3 months.
The suspect will be charged in court tomorrow for an offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 10 years and shall also be liable to fine.
Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Superintendent Ng Yeow Boon, commended Mr Kamaludeen for his alertness, preventing the suspect from committing more offences.
