Man Arrested for Insulting Public Servant

In response to media queries, Police confirmed that we have arrested a person on 31 May 2008 at Broadway Hotel, Serangoon Road for the offence of “threatening, abusing or insulting a public servant”. The person is identified as Gopalan Pallichadath Nair, a former Singaporean who is now a US citizen.

A warrant of arrest without bail was granted by the courts for the arrest.

Nair is believed to have sent an email to the Attorney-General and the Solicitor-General which contained statements amounting to such an offence. These statements were directed against Justice Belinda Ang, a judge of the Singapore Supreme Court. These statements were also posted on Nair’s blog.

Nair is presently in Police custody. He will be produced in court on 2 June 2008 .
