Police have arrested a 39-year old Malay man for a series of theft of cash cards from motorcycles parked at Grange Road open car park beside Orchard Building .
On 17 June 2008 , plain clothes officers from Orchard Neighbourhood Police Centre were patrolling along Orchard Road when they spotted a Malay man behaving suspiciously. His act of looking from one motor vehicle to another had aroused the suspicion of the officers and their observations paid off when he was seen meddling with the IU units of the motorcycles and thereafter walked back to his vehicle. A check was conducted on him and 4 cash cards were found in his possession.
The suspect will be charged in court on 19 June 2008 for Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 and a week’s custody will be sought to facilitate further investigation. If convicted, he faces a maximum imprisonment of 3 years and shall also be liable to a fine for each charge.
Acting Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Superintendent Cheong Chee Ming, would like to remind motorcyclists and drivers to remove their cash cards from their vehicles’ IUs and not to leave their valuables such as handphone or laptop unattended in their vehicles. He commended his officers for their vigilance and alertness that resulted in the arrest and recovery of the stolen properties.
