After extensive investigative work, Police have arrested an unemployed 38 year-old man believed to be involved in at least two cases of taxi robbery reported in the Ang Mo Kio Estate.
Between 1 and 3 October 2008 , there were two cases of taxi robberies reported in Ang Mo Kio Estate. The suspect had boarded the victims’ taxis from Geylang Road and directed the victims to proceed to a car park at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on separate occasions. At the car park, the suspect robbed the victim of cash and hand phone total worth $600/-. The victims aged 55 to 57 years old described the suspect as a Chinese man with a crew cut hair style.
Through follow up checks and investigations in the neighbourhood, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division soon established the identity of the suspect. On 9 October 2008 at about 11.30 am , the suspect was arrested at his residence in Blk 560 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.
The suspect will be charged in the Subordinate Court No. 26 on 11 October 2008 for Robbery which carries a maximum of ten years’ imprisonment.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division HQ, Superintendent Lee Chin Ek, commended his officers for their vigilance and good investigative follow up which led to the arrest of the suspect. He would like to advise taxi drivers to be cautious when alighting passengers in secluded places and to keep a minimum amount of cash in their possession during their night shift.
