Police have arrested a 45-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for a case of break-in at Yishun Street 21 reported on 16 November 2009.
On 16 November 2009 at about 10.00am, a 40-year-old woman reported to the Police that two handphones were missing from her unit at Yishun Street 21. The handphones, valued at about $600, had been placed near the common corridor window and it was believed that the suspect had reached in through the window to “fish” out the victim’s handphones.
Following the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and pursued all available leads in an effort to nab the suspect. Their efforts paid off when the officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect and he was arrested during a Police operation this morning. The victim’s handphones were also subsequently recovered from the suspect’s residence in Yishun.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 20 November 2009 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum punishment of 14 years imprisonment.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers for their swift and excellent follow-up investigation which led to the successful arrest of the suspect. He also advised house owners to avoid leaving their belongings near the windows along the common corridor and to secure their windows when they are not at home.
