Good Investigative Work Leads to Snatch Thief's Arrest
 

Police have arrested a 37-year-old suspect who had snatched the valuables of an elderly woman a few days earlier at Bukit Merah View.

On 3 Jan 2010 at about 2.15 pm, the victim, an 84 year-old woman, was having a conversation with her two elderly friends at the void deck of Blk 121 Bukit Merah View when a man came from behind and snatched away her purse and mobile phone. Caught by surprise, the elderly victim and her friends were unable to provide a detailed description of the suspect whom had fled on foot towards an unknown direction.

Officers from Clementi Police Division quickly sprung into action and managed to establish the suspect’s identity after extensive follow-up investigations. On 7 Jan 2010 at about 10.30 pm , the suspect was arrested at Teck Whye Lane . The victim's mobile phone was also recovered.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 Jan 2010 for the offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years imprisonment and shall also be liable for caning.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Yeow Boon, commended his officers for their good investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the suspect and reiterated that the police will spare no efforts to track down the perpetrators of such crimes and bring them to justice.
