Wallet Thief Nabbed Within A Day
 

Police have arrested a 25-year-old Chinese man who is believed to be involved in several cases of theft reported at a tertiary institution in the Clementi area on 18 January 2010. In these cases, wallets containing cash amounting to about $90 and other personal documents were reported stolen.

Following the reports, officers from Clementi Police Division conducted intensive follow-up investigations and subsequently managed to establish the identity of the suspect. The suspect was swiftly arrested within a day on 19 January 2010 at Pasir Panjang Road and a wallet containing personal documents, believed to be stolen items, was also recovered from his possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was believed to be involved in another case of theft at the same tertiary institution in December 2009.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 21 January 2010 for the offence of Theft in Dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Yeow Boon commended his officers involved for their swift follow-up investigative work which led to the successful arrest of the suspect.
