Home Team officers from the Singapore Police Force, the Central Narcotics Bureau and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, together with officers from Singapore Customs and the SAF Military Police Command have arrested 170 persons in a multi-agency operation at Geylang.
The massive 14-hour operation led by the Criminal Investigation Department, deployed more than 200 officers, in a coordinated effort which commenced yesterday afternoon and ended early this morning.
The persons were arrested for a host of criminal offences including illegal gambling activities; secret society involvement; possession of an offensive weapon; immigration offences; peddling contraband cigarettes; vice-related activities; trafficking, possession and consumption of controlled drugs. The operation also uncovered persons who were wanted for other offences.
The arrests were made at various locations including hotels, at back lanes, lodging house, and also along the road, between Geylang Lorongs 4 to 24.
SAC Ng Boon Gay, Director, Criminal Investigation Department praised the officers involved for carrying out a well-coordinated and successful operation and expressed his appreciation to all agencies for their strong support. He added, “We will not tolerate such criminal activities. The agencies will continue to work together and conduct such regular enforcement actions. There is no safe haven for criminals on our streets.”
Investigations against those arrested are ongoing.
