Swift Action By Police In Rounding-Up Seven Men For Robbery With Hurt Offences
 

Police arrested 7 men aged between 15 and 23 years old for committing two cases of Robbery with Hurt in Yishun and Ang Mo Kio.

Between 1 and 2 February 2010, two cases of robbery with hurt were reported to the Police. Both cases took place in the vicinity of Yishun Avenue 6 around the same time and involved a number of culprits. In these 2 cases, the culprits would assault the victims with bare hands before making away with their valuables.

Based on the similarities in the modus operandi, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division believed that the culprits involved in the two cases could be linked. Extensive ground work and investigative probes were immediately carried out by the officers Their quick and intensive efforts paid off when they managed to establish the identity of one of the culprits. On 4 Feb 2010 at about 2.30 pm, a raid was immediately carried out at Yishun and two of the culprits were arrested. Following up on their arrests, the officers mounted simultaneous raids at various locations in Yishun and Ang Mo Kio between 4 Feb 2010 at 4.00 pm and 5 Feb 2010 at 2.30 am. Five other culprits were arrested and one stolen handphone belonging to one of the victims had since been recovered.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 6 February 2010 for an offence of Robbery with Hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum punishment of 20 years imprisonment and caning of not less than 12 strokes.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers for their swift and good investigative follow-up leading to the arrests of the six suspects. Said DAC Hsu, "Such criminal acts affecting public safety will not be tolerated. We will do everything in our power to track them down to face the consequences of their unlawful actions."
