A 28-year-old Malaysian man was swiftly arrested by Police within a day after he had assaulted and attempted to rob a 54-year-old woman in a lift in the wee hours of 15 March 2010.
On 15 March 2010 at about 2.25am, the 54-year-old woman had entered the lift at Blk 838 Hougang Central together with an unknown man. Before the lift door closed, the man started to assault the victim and tried to grab her gold chain and handbag. The victim put up a struggle and shouted for help and the suspect then fled without taking anything from the victim. However, as a result of the assault, the victim sustained bruises on her eye and cheek.
Following the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted intensive ground enquiries and intelligence probes and managed to establish the identity of the suspect. The suspect was subsequently arrested at Pasir Panjang Road on 15 March 2010 at about 4.30pm .
The suspect will be charged in Court on 17 March 2010 for the offence of Robbery with Hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years and caning of not less than 12 strokes.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun commended his officers for their excellent investigative follow-up and quick work in rounding up the suspect.
