Police have arrested 16 men following an operation against illegal gambling activities on 25 March 2010.

The operation, which involved more than 30 officers from Bedok Police Division, resulted in the arrest of 16 men between the age of 17 and 58 year-old at the back-lane between Lor 16 and 18 Geylang Road.

12 of the 16 suspects arrested will be charged in Court on 27 March 2010 for an offence of Unlawful Assembly under Section 143 of the Penal Code. The offence is punishable with an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine, or with both. The remaining suspects will be released on bail pending further investigations.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistance Commissioner Teo Chun Ching said “Police will not hesitate to take tough enforcement action against the promoters and gamblers involved in such illegal gambling activities.”
