Thirteen men and 28 women were arrested in yet another multi-agency operation led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which ended early this morning.
This brings the total to 287 persons arrested in the last four days, for various criminal offences such as gang-related activities, immigration offences, illegal employment, peddling of contraband cigarettes, vice-related activities, and consumption of controlled drugs.
The extensive multi-agency operation was conducted from 8 to 11 April 2010 , and had involved more than 400 officers from the Singapore Police Force, the Central Narcotics Bureau, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority and the Singapore Customs. The arrests were made at various locations in Geylang, Joo Chiat, Orchard Towers and Woodlands, including entertainment outlets, hotels, back lanes, lodging houses and forested areas. Public entertainment licensing breaches were also detected during the operations.
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Boon Gay commended the efforts put in by the officers involved, as well as the excellent co-ordination and dedication of the various agencies in this extensive operation. He said, “We have struck at the heart of these illicit activities and brought those who run afoul of the law to justice. This four-day operation has clearly demonstrated the resolve of our enforcement agencies to ensure that there will be no safe haven on our streets for criminals. This is not the end though and we will continue to take decisive enforcement action against criminal elements in Singapore .”
Investigations against those arrested are ongoing.
