An anti-vice operation involving over 50 officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Tanglin Police Division was conducted at two budget hotels located along Balestier Road on 15 April 2010 .
The operation resulted in the arrest of 12 foreign nationals of various nationalities. 11 were arrested for offences under the Women’s Charter and 1 for an immigration offence. Investigations against those arrested are ongoing.
Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) Koh Yak Leng said, "While the vice situation in Balestier is very much under control, Police will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary enforcement action against such illicit activities. Apart from enforcement, Police will also work closely with other stakeholders such as the Hotel Licensing Board and Urban Redevelopment Authority to ensure that the hotels are not used for illicit or immoral purposes.
