Man Arrested For Snatch Theft Also Believed To Be Involved In Series of Motor Vehicle Theft
 

Police have arrested a 56-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for a case of snatch theft involving an elderly female victim on 13 April 2010 . The suspect is also believed to be involved in a series of motor vehicle theft.

On 13 March 2010 at about 2.15pm , the victim, a 74-year-old woman, was walking along the footpath between Blk 4 and Blk 5 Ghim Moh Road when an unknown man suddenly snatched away her gold chain and fled towards an unknown direction.

Following the report, officers from Clementi Police Division conducted intensive ground enquiries and intelligence probes and managed to establish the identity of the suspect. The suspect was subsequently arrested in the vicinity of Holland Drive on 15 April 2010 at about 9.00pm . Further investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to be involved in a series of theft of delivery vehicles in the vicinity of Holland Road .

The suspect will be charged in Court on 17 April 2010 for the offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years, imprisonment and liable for caning. He will also be charged with an offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine.

Acting Commander of Clementi Police Division, Superintendent of Police Sekher W commended his officers for their resourcefulness and determination in tracking down the suspect and emphasized that the Police will spare no effort to track down perpetrators of such crimes and bring them to justice.
