Police arrested a 27 year-old man within a day after he had broken into a mini-mart and made off with more than 400 pieces of phone cards with an estimated value of $3,000/- and cash amounting to about $1,000/-.
On 21 April 2010 at about 11.50 am, Police were informed of a case of break-in at a mini-mart located at Jalan Papan. The owner had closed his mini-mart at about 12.00 am the night before and discovered the phone cards and cash (assortment of coins and notes) missing when he opened the mini-mart for business the next morning at about 11.00 am.
Following the report, officers from Clementi Police Division conducted a systematic and thorough investigation at the mini-mart and its vicinity. From footage obtained from a CCTV, officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect and swiftly arrested him at about 5.00 pm at his workplace the same day on 21 April 2010. The suspect later led the police to recover more than 400 pieces of phone cards and an assortment of coins and notes amounting to more than $500/- which were hidden in some bushes nearby.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 23 Apr 2010 for the offence of Housebreaking & Theft by Night. This offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.
Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ng Yeow Boon commended his officers for their good investigative work which resulted in the successful arrest of the suspect.
