An anti-vice operation involving over 23 officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Tanglin Police Division was conducted at two budget hotels located along Balestier Road on 7 May 2010.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 13 female foreign nationals of various nationalities for offences under the Women’s Charter. 2 of the 13 arrested are also believed to be immigration offenders. Investigations against those arrested are ongoing.
Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) Koh Yak Leng said, "Even though we do not see a significant displacement of vice activities from Geylang, we will continue to be relentless in our efforts against such illicit activities in Balestier. Apart from enforcement, Police will continue to work closely with other stakeholders such as the Hotel Licensing Board and Urban Redevelopment Authority to ensure that the hotels are not used for illicit or immoral purposes”.
