Six Youths Arrested for Series of Motorcycle Thefts
 

Police have arrested 6 male youths, aged between 15 and 19 years old, for their involvement in a series of motorcyle thefts in Clementi estate and Seah Im Road areas.

Since February 2010, several motorcycles were reported stolen in the Clementi and Seah Im areas. Following intensive enquiries and investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to identity the first suspect's involvement in one of the cases.

On 11 May 2010 at about 4.00 pm, the first suspect was arrested Jurong East Street 13 in an ambush. Through follow-up investigations, the identities of the remaining suspects were established and they were arrested at various locations in Clementi yesterday evening. Preliminary investigations revealed that the six suspects were believed to be involved in more than 6 cases of motorcycle thefts in the Clementi and Seah Im areas. Five motorcycles have been recovered.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 13 May 2010 for the offence of Theft from Vehicle with Common Intention under Section 379A read with Section 34 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years imprisonment, or with fine or both.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Yeow Boon commended his officers for their perseverance and good investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the suspects. He also urged owners of motorcycles to safeguard against theft by adopting the following crime prevention measures:

- Park the motorcycle in well-lit areas;
- Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle before leaving, even if it is only for a short while;
- Install an anti-theft alarm; and
- Secure the motorcycle with additional locks
