Police have arrested five male suspects aged between 21 and 25 years old for suspected involvement in at least 4 cases of robberies committed in Sims Drive and Hougang Estates.
In April 2010, there were spates of robbery cases reported in Sims Drive and Hougang Estates. The victims aged between 40 and 57 years old were assaulted and relieved of their properties such as jewellery, handphones, credit-cards, and other valuables amounting to $1000/-. In one of the cases which took place on 17 April 2010 at about 4.50 am , a male 57-year-old taxi driver was returning home after work when he was assaulted and robbed of his valuables at the vicinity of Blk 44 Sims Drive.
Through extensive investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division managed to establish the identity of one of the suspects. On 13 May 2010 at about 1.30 pm , the first suspect was arrested at Blk 43A Sims Drive . Through investigative follow ups and raids, the remaining four suspects were arrested at Hougang and Serangoon Estates simultaneously.
The suspects will be charged in Court on 15 May 2010 for an offence of Robbery with Hurt which carries a maximum of 20 years imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers for their excellent investigative work which resulted in the arrest of all the five suspects. DAC Hsu also advised members of the public to be wary of their surroundings. When confronted, members of the public should remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator(s) and call for the Police as soon as possible.
