Swift Police Action Following Alert by Vigilant Member of Public Foils Housebreaking Attempt
 

The vigilance of an alert member of public combined with swift police response resulted in the arrest of two Indian teenagers, aged 20 and 17 years, in a case of Attempted Housebreaking at a provision shop located at Jurong East St 24.

On 17 May 2010 at about 1.50 am , Mr Chua who was returning from work stumbled upon the two suspects’ attempting to break in to the provision shop. Mr. Chua continued observing the suspects and immediately called for the Police when their attempt to break into the shop failed. Detailed descriptions of the suspects were given by Mr. Chua to the Police.

Immediately, officers from Clementi Police Division sprung into action and conducted a systematic search at the vicinity. Both the suspects were subsequently arrested near a primary school at Jurong East St 24.

The suspects will be charged on 18 May 2010 for Attempted Housebreaking with Common Intention under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 read with Sec 511 and Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, they face a jail term of up to 3 years and shall be liable to a fine.

Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Yeow Boon, commended Mr. Chua for his public-spiritedness and thanked him for his assistance in apprehending the suspect. He also commended the officers for their swift action which led to the arrest of the suspects.
