Police Net Housebreaker within 15 Hours with lead from CCTV Footage
 

Police have arrested a 41 year-old man early this morning who is believed to have broken into a unit of an apartment located along One-North Gateway the day before.

On 20 May 2010 at about 1.30pm, a 42-year-old resident of the said apartment reported to the Police that his unit had been broken into. Preliminary investigations revealed that at about 12.30 pm, the victim returned home to discover his unit’s toilet window ajar. Upon checking, he discovered cash of about $4,000/- and an assortment of jewellery amounting to about $15,000/- missing from his unit.

Following the report, officers from Clementi Police Division sprung into action and conducted extensive follow-up investigations, including the retrieval of the condominium’s CCTV footage. From a lead obtained from the CCTV footage coupled with extensive enquiries, the officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect. An operation was mounted at about 4am the next day where the officers swiftly arrested the suspect at a unit at Potong Pasir Avenue 1. Cash of about $100/- and some jewellery amounting to about $5,000/- were also recovered.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 22 May 2010 for offence of Housebreaking & Theft by Day. This offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years.

Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Yeow Boon commended his officers for their good investigative work resulting in the swift arrest of the suspect.
