Police’s investigative efforts paid off when five male Malays, aged 17 to 21 were arrested for a case of robbery that happened on 30 August 2009.
On the day of the incident at about 12.40am, the culprits had waylaid two victims who were on their way home after supper. The victims were assaulted and one of the victims’ handbag was stolen. Some of the items in the handbag included cash of S$40/-, a Nokia handphone, an Ezlink card and some personal items.
Through persistent follow up actions, officers from Clementi Police Division traced the identities of the culprits and eventually arrested the first suspect on 25 May 2010 at the vicinity of Clementi West St 2. With that breakthrough, the identities of the remaining suspects were established. An operation was mounted and the four remaining suspects were arrested in the vicinity of Yishun Ring Road, Clementi Road and Jalan Kecil.
The five suspects will be charged in Court No. 26 on 27 May 2010 for Gang Robbery under Section 395 Cap 224 which carries imprisonment of not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.
Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Yeow Boon, commended his officers for their unrelenting investigative work, teamwork and resourcefulness in the arrest of the suspects.
