Two Young Children Hurt in Traffic Accident: Traffic Police Reminds Public to Use Child Seats to Protect Young Lives

Police are investigating a road traffic accident involving a van which was believed to have self-skidded while travelling along Piccadilly Road on 27 May 10 at about 1.40pm. As a result of the accident, the van driver, a Chinese woman in her 60s, sustained injuries to her arm and cuts on her face and was conveyed to TTSH. The van's two front seat passengers, a five-year-old Chinese boy and a six-year-old Chinese girl, sustained cuts to their limbs and were conveyed conscious to KKH. The van's back seat passenger, a Chinese man in his 20s, sustained cuts to his face and was also conveyed to TTSH. Preliminary investigations revealed that no child restraints were used.

Traffic Police would like to remind all motorists to belt up and use an approved child seat for their children passengers, aged 8 years old and below, when travelling in a motor vehicle.

Commander Traffic Police, Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) Christopher Ng said: “As a parent, you have a direct responsibility for the safety of your young children travelling in your vehicle. If you fail to use a child seat for your child, you are endangering his/her life. A simple act of ensuring that child seats are used will go a long way to ensure their safety.”
