Swift Justice for Snatch Thief Who Preyed On 33-Year-Old Woman
Solving the case within 3 hours, Police have arrested a 42 year-old man who had snatched the purse of a 33 year-old female victim at Blk 110 Hougang yesterday afternoon.
On 3 June 2010 at about 3.45 pm , the 33-year-old victim fell prey to the suspect inside the lift of Blk 124 Hougang Avenue 1. The suspect had followed the victim into the lift and snatched away her purse containing cash and valuables total amounting to $100/-. The victim gave chase but soon lost sight of the suspect. Upon being notified of the case, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division sprung into action. Through extensive follow-up investigations and ground enquiries, the officers managed to establish the suspect’s identity and swiftly arrested him in the vicinity of Blk 125 Hougang Avenue 1 within 3 hours of the report.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 5 June 2010 for an offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 7 years and shall be liable for caning.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers’ investigative skills and well coordinated follow-up resulting in the swift arrest of the suspect. Meanwhile, he advised members of the public to remain calm if confronted, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator(s) and inform the Police as soon as possible.
