Within the space of 3 hours, Police arrested a 46 year-old man who had robbed two male victims of their cash in the vicinity of Blk 513 Hougang Avenue 10 last night.
On 9 June 2010 at about 9.30 pm, the two victims aged 33 and 36 years old, fell prey to the suspect at the void deck of Blk 513 Hougang Avenue 10. The suspect had confronted the victims with a knife and demanded for cash. Out of fear, the victims handed over their money of about $35/- to the suspect. When the suspect demanded for more money, the victims took the opportunity to flee and shout for assistance. A passer-by who was alerted by the outcry of the victims reported the matter to the Police. Upon being notified of the case, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division sprang into action. Through extensive follow-up investigations and ground enquiries, the officers managed to establish the suspect’s identity within an hour of the report. An ambush operation was swiftly mounted and the suspect was detained at Hougang on 10 June 2010 at about 12.20 am.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 11 June 2010 for an offence of Armed Robbery under Section 392 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the offender faces a jail term of up to 14 years and shall be liable for caning of not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers’ investigative skills and well coordinated actions which resulted in the swift arrest of the suspect.
