Law enforcement agencies once again demonstrated their resolve in keeping crime off the streets as they took part in a 4-day operation led by the Criminal Investigation Department. A total of 166 persons were arrested in successive waves of operations that commenced on Monday 7 June 2010 and ended early this morning.

The operations saw officers from Home Team departments such as the Singapore Police Force, the Central Narcotics Bureau and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority working alongside officials from the Ministry of Manpower, Health Sciences Authority and Singapore Customs.

The 166 persons were arrested for various criminal offences including illegal gambling activities, involvement in secret societies, immigration offences, peddling contraband cigarettes, and possession and consumption of controlled drugs and vice-related activities. The operation also uncovered infringements under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, and Poisons Act, as well as persons who were wanted by the authorities for other offences.

Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Boon Gay, commended the officers for their excellent teamwork and dedication. He added: “The Police and the various enforcement agencies are determined to keep crime off the streets. We have demonstrated on numerous occasions that we will not allow criminal elements any chance of reprieve. This is but one of the many enforcement operations that we will continue to carry out. "
