Serial Locker Thief Arrested
 

Police arrested a 21-year-old man yesterday who is believed to have stolen from a locker's coin compartment at a public swimming complex located at Stirling Road.

On 10 Jun 2010 at about 9.20 am , a 44-year-old male victim reported to the Police that one of the lockers’ coin compartments at the said swimming complex had been forced opened and that coins amounting to more than $100/- had been stolen.

Through extensive follow-up investigation and intensive enquiries, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect. He was swiftly arrested on the same day at about 2.30 pm. Coins amounting to more than $80/- were found in his possession and seized for investigations. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to be involved in two similar cases which occurred at Holland Drive and Tiong Bahru Road .

The suspect will be charged in Court on 12 Jun 2010 for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces imprisonment which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their good investigative work and teamwork which led to the successful arrest of the suspect.
