Police have arrested a 54 year-old man who had masqueraded as a doctor and molested an 11 year-old girl on the pretext of conducting a medical examination.
On 21 May 2010 at about 6.45 am , the 11 year-old victim was approached by the suspect at the underpass of Bugis MRT Station. The suspect claimed to be a doctor and asked the victim whether she was feeling well. When the victim replied that she had experienced some aches and pains on her body, he volunteered to conduct an examination on her. He then led her to a secluded staircase at a nearby shopping centre and molested her.
Although the identity of the suspect was not known, officers from Central Police Division persevered and mounted numerous ambushes coupled with extensive ground enquiries in a bid to apprehend the suspect. On 15 June 2010 at about 6.00 am , while the officers were conducting an ambush operation along Segar Road , they spotted a man who fitted the description of the suspect provided by the victim. The officers moved in and the suspect was subsequently placed under arrest. Investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to have outraged the modesty of other young victims using the same ruse.
The suspect will be charged in Subordinate Court 26 on 16 June 2010 at 9.00 am for an offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(2) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. A person convicted for such an offence is liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 5 years, or with fine, or with caning or with any combination of such punishments.
Acting Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Adrian Quek, commended his officers for their diligence and good investigative work that led to the arrest of the suspect. He added, "My officers have worked tirelessly to solve this case and I'm glad we have arrested the suspect and prevented other young victims from being harmed. Parents are reminded to advise their children to be wary of strangers and not to follow them to secluded places.”
