Police Put A Stop To Yishun Crime Spree - Eight Arrested
 

Police have arrested 8 suspects aged between 15 to 29 years old, who are believed to be involved in a series of robbery, snatch theft and housebreaking cases in the Yishun Estate.

On 24 May 2010 at about 2.30 am, a 20 year-old national serviceman was attacked by a group of youths along Yishun Ring Road. The suspects had assaulted the victim with beer bottles before relieving him of his hand phone valued at about $400/-. The victim sustained arm injuries and was subsequently conveyed to hospital.

Upon being notified, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division responded swiftly and combed the estate in search of the suspects. Following the well-coordinated search operation, the officers managed to detain 4 suspects in the vicinity of Yishun Street 21 who fitted the descriptions provided by the victim within 12 hours. Meticulous and detailed investigations then led to the arrest of another 4 suspects. Investigations revealed that the suspects are also believed to be responsible for other cases of robbery, snatch theft and housebreaking in the Yishun Estate.

Seven of the suspects will be charged in Court on 26 June 2010 for an offence of Robbery with Hurt which carries a maximum of 20 years imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane while one of the suspects will be charged for an offence of Housebreaking and Theft under Section 457 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum punishment of 14 years imprisonment.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers for their swift follow up action and good investigative skills leading to the arrest of the suspects.
