Traffic Police Officer Holds True To Calling And Rejects Bribe
On 5 July 2010 at about 12.30 pm , Cpl Roslan from Traffic Police Department was despatched to attend to an accident at Petir Road . Upon arrival, it was established that a car had crashed into a bollard at the said location. Cpl Roslan checked the vicinity but was unable to locate the driver or any injured person.
While he was recording the facts in his logsheet, a man approached Cpl Roslan and admitted that he was the driver of the car. Thinking that Cpl Roslan was going to issue him a ticket, the driver requested for Cpl Roslan to give him a 'chance'. The driver then took out three $10 notes and placed them on the officer’s motorcycle. He indicated that the $30 was meant to be coffee money for the officer in return for letting him off.
However, Cpl Roslan steadfastly refused the bribe and placed the 71 year-old driver under arrest. The case has since been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
Commander of Traffic Police, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Ng, commended Cpl Roslan for remaining steadfast and true to his calling. He said, “I am proud to see the high level of integrity displayed by Cpl Roslan. His actions have certainly exemplified what the SPF stands for.”
