A 43 year-old man who is believed to be responsible for two cases of lift robbery reported in Clarence Lane and Jalan Rumah Tinggi housing estate was arrested yesterday morning.
On 13 July 2010 at about 7.45 pm , a 56 year-old woman was assaulted and robbed of her valuables by an unknown man in the lift of Block 39 Jalan Rumah Tinggi. The suspect then fled with the victim’s black pouch including her handphone, cash of $20/- EZlink card, a gold necklace with a gold pendant valued at $1247/- as well as some personal items.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to ascertain the identity of the suspect and eventually arrested him on 20 July 2010 in the vicinity of Alexandra Road . The victim's EZ link card and handphone were successfully recovered from the suspect. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in another similar case of lift robbery at Clarence Lane .
The suspect will be charged in Court 26 on 21 July 2010 for Robbery with Hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries imprisonment of not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.
Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their efforts in arresting the suspect and reiterated that the police will spare no efforts to track down the perpetrators of such crimes and bring them to justice.
