Police have arrested a 57-year old man who is believed to be involved in a series of break-ins in the Toh Yi Drive area.
In early July 2010, a spate of break-ins were reported at several shop houses located in the vicinity of Toh Yi Drive . Items stolen included cash and cash registers amounting to about $1,100/- in total. In mid-Jul 2010, there was a breakthrough in investigations after Police managed to obtain CCTV footage of the suspect from one of the crime scenes. However, the suspect remained elusive despite extensive ground enquiries and numerous stake-outs.
Undeterred, officers from Clementi Police Division persevered and worked tirelessly in a bid to apprehend the suspect. Their efforts finally paid off on 12 Aug 2010 at about 1.15 am , where the suspect was traced to a unit at Toh Yi Drive and was subsequently placed under arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least six cases of housebreaking.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 13 Aug 2010 for the offence of Housebreaking & Theft by Night. The offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.
Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their good ground work and perseverance which resulted in the successful arrest of the suspect.
