Police arrested a 39-year-old man yesterday evening who is believed to have stolen a mobile phone from a shop owner at Blk 113 Bukit Merah View.
On 14 Aug 2010 at about 2.40 pm , the 50-year-old male victim reported to the Police that his mobile phone (valued about $240) which he had left at the counter of his shop had been stolen. He also informed that the suspect had been captured by the CCTV camera in his shop.
With the CCTV footage from the victim's shop, officers from Clementi Police Division conducted extensive enquiries to trace the suspect. Their efforts paid off on 19 Aug 2010 at about 6.00 pm when the suspect was traced to the vicinity of Blk 116 Bukit Merah View. He was subsequently placed under arrest. Two mobile phones found in his possession were also seized as case exhibits.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 21 Aug 2010 for the offence of Theft in Dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 7 years.
Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their good work leading to the arrest of the suspect.
