"Spiderman" Housebreaker Arrested

Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth who is believed to be responsible for a series of break-ins in the Jurong West and Boon Lay Housing Estates. In these cases, the suspect was believed to have entered the flats by walking along the ledge from the stairway and climbing into the kitchen windows to commit theft while the unsuspecting occupants were fast asleep in their flats.

Officers from Jurong Police Division worked tirelessly to solve the cases since they were reported. Through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, the officers managed to narrow down the identity of the suspect. The officers’ efforts finally paid off when they spotted the suspect at the void deck of Block 692 Jurong West Street 72 during one of their ambushes in the wee hours on 20 Aug 2010 . Officers conducted a search and found in his possession stolen loot consisting of a wallet, three handphones and a packet of cigarettes.

The suspect will be charged in Court No 26 on 21 Aug 2010 for Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code Chapter 224. If convicted, the suspect faces imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheang Keng Keong, commended his officers for their dedication, perseverance and excellent groundwork which led to the arrest of the suspect.
