Swift Police Action Sees Arrest of Armed Robber Within 6 Hours
 

A 37-year-old man who is believed to have robbed a provision shop assistant at Blk 53 Telok Blangah Drive was promptly arrested by Police within six hours on 21 Aug 2010.

On 21 Aug 2010 at about 4.30 pm , Police were informed by a 22-year-old provision shop assistant that he had been robbed by an unknown man at his provision shop located at Blk 53 Telok Blangah Drive. The suspect had brandished a knife and demanded for the victim to open the cash register. Out of fear, the victim complied and the suspect then took off with cash amounting to about $250/-, two packets of cigarettes and a top-up phone card valued at $28/-.

Officers from Clementi Police Division immediately sprung into action and conducted a systematic search as well as extensive enquiries in the area. Having established the identity of the suspect, the officers conducted stake-outs at his residence and haunts. The officers' efforts finally paid off when they spotted the suspect along Kampong Bahru where they arrested him at about 10.20 pm . Upon a search, part of the stolen loot consisting of about $250/- and an opened packet of cigarettes was found in his possession.

The suspect will be charged on 23 Aug 2010 for Armed Robbery under Section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 14 years and shall be liable for a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.

Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended the officers for their swift action and good investigative work which led to the arrest of the suspect.
