Police have arrested three youths aged between 17 and 19 years old who are believed to be involved in a series of theft from vehicle cases in the Eng Kong Garden estate area.
Between 21 Aug 2010 and 24 Aug 2010 , a spate of theft from vehicle cases was reported at the Eng Kong Garden estate area. Items stolen from unsecured cars included cash, cash cards, a digital camera, a mobile phone and accessories amounting to about S$1,800/-.
Through extensive follow up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of one of the suspects. On 25 Aug 2010 at about 6.00 pm , the first suspect was arrested at Dover Crescent . Following his arrest, another two suspects were arrested at Cheng Soon Gardens and Chun Tin Road at about 8.00 pm and 1.00 am respectively. Preliminary investigations revealed that the three suspects are believed to be involved in at least five cases of theft from vehicle in the Eng Kong Garden estate area.
The suspects will be charged in Court on 27 Aug 2010 for the offence of Theft from Vehicle with Common Intention under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum jail term of three years imprisonment, or with fine or both.
Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their good investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the suspects. He also reminded members of public to secure their vehicles even when parked within/outside their own compounds.
