Police arrested a 19-year-old woman yesterday who is believed to be involved in several cases of theft at the National University Hospital (NUH).
On 28 August 2010 at about 7.00 pm, two female victims reported to the Police that their wallets containing cash amounting to $270/-, credit cards, an EZ link card and personal documents had been stolen from their bags at NUH. Both victims had left their bags unattended for a period of time while they carried out their duties.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect. On 30 August 2010 at about 11.00 pm, the suspect was arrested at Whampoa Drive. Cash amounting to $124/-, an EZ Link card, pawnshop tickets and items which were believed to have been bought with the stolen money and credit cards were found in her possession and seized for investigations.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 1 Sep 2010 for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code Chapter 224. If convicted, she faces imprisonment which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.
Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their good investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the suspect. He also reminded members of the public to take care of their belongings and not to leave their valuables unattended for any period of time.
