Motorcycle Thieves Arrested Within 24 Hours
 

Police have arrested three male youths aged between 19 and 20 years who are believed to be responsible for two cases of motorcycle theft in the Yishun area.

On 31 August 2010 between 10.10 am and 12.30 pm, two motorcycles were reported missing from the vicinity of Yishun Street 22 and Yishun Industrial Park A respectively. The two stolen motorcycles were subsequently recovered at Yishun Industrial Park A and Old Tampines Road.

Through follow-up investigations, the first suspect was tracked down and arrested at Yishun Street 21 the same day at about 11.45 pm. Following this, his two accomplices were arrested the following morning in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9. Investigations are on-going.

First time offenders found guilty of Theft of Motor Vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 may be imprisoned for a term which may extend to seven years, and a fine.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers for their good investigative follow-up and efforts leading to the arrests of the three suspect. He also advised motor vehicle owners to note the following crime prevention measures:

Park your motor vehicles in well-lit areas;

Remove the ignition key and lock the motor vehicle whenever it is left unattended, even if it is only for a short while; and

Install an anti-theft alarm.

Use additional locking devices on your motorcycles, such as disc brake locks.
