Police have arrested two men, aged 45 and 53, who are believed to be responsible for a case of snatch theft involving an elderly female victim at Yishun Avenue 3.
On 30 August 2010 at about 12.55 pm, the victim, a 76 year-old Chinese female was inside the lift with an unknown man when he suddenly snatched her gold chain and fled as the lift door opened at the fourth storey.
Following the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division worked relentlessly on the case. Through intensive ground enquiries and intelligence probes, they managed to establish the identity of the suspect. On 7 September 2010 at about 2.30 pm, the officers spotted the suspect at the void deck of a block at Yishun Street 21. The suspect fled upon seeing the officers but was subsequently detained. Following his arrest, the officers also detained another man in the vicinity who is believed to be his accomplice in the crime. The victim’s gold chain and pendant worth about S$130/- has since been successfully recovered.
The two suspects will be charged in the Subordinate Court 26 on 9 September 2010 for an offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum punishment of 7 years imprisonment and caning.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun, commended his officers for their good work in tracking down the suspects.
