Female Loanshark Runner Arrested
 

Police arrested a 35 year-old woman yesterday evening for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 16 Sep 2010 at about 8.00 pm, Police were informed that a loanshark runner had been detained by a member of public at Blk 74A Redhill Road. Officers from Clementi Police Division responded promptly and conducted a check on the suspect. Upon a check, paraphernalia related to loanshark harassment such as debtor’s notes, writing pad and pen were found in her possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a debtor-turned-runner and was believed to have carried out loanshark harassments for a loanshark.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 18 Sep 2010. Under the amended Moneylenders Act 2008, first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment may be imprisoned up to 5 years and fined between $5,000/- and $50,000/- and shall also be liable to be caned not more than 6 strokes.
