Police have arrested a 33 year-old man who is believed to be involved in at least four break-ins in Joo Chiat and Pasir Ris.
In the latest case on 21 September 2010 , a 42 year-old male victim reported that his house along Koon Seng Road had been broken into. Two watches, cash amounting to $110, a handphone, a ring, a wallet and other items with a total value of more than $700/- were reported stolen.
Through extensive follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division managed to establish the suspect’s identity and traced him to a hotel room at Lavender Street . An operation was mounted and the suspect was promptly arrested at about 12.45pm . Some of the items which were reported stolen from the 42 year-old victim were also recovered by the Police from the hotel room. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least 3 other cases of housebreaking in Joo Chiat and Pasir Ris.
The suspect will be charged in Court 26 on 23 September 2010 for an offence of Housebreaking and Theft By Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he can be sentenced to an imprisonment term of up to fourteen years.
Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Teo Chun Ching, commended his officers for their good investigative skills and follow-up which led to the arrest of the suspect.
