Police have arrested a 29-year-old man who is believed to have broken into a jewellery shop at People’s Park Complex on 21 September 2010 and made away with about $300,000 worth of jewellery.
On 21 September 2010 at about 1.10 pm, Police were informed that a jewellery shop at People’s Park Complex had been broken into. From the CCTV recordings, a suspect was identified. With this lead, officers from Central Police Division conducted extensive investigations and mounted several ambushes in various locations in a bid to apprehend the suspect.
On 26 September 2010 at about 6.55 pm, officers lying in wait at Bukit Gombak MRT station detained a suspicious man fitting the description of the suspect. The man led the officers to a flat in Bukit Batok where 404 pieces of jewellery were recovered. In addition, the officers also discovered an assortment of mobile phones and computer notebooks in the flat which are believed to be stolen.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 28 September 2010 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. A person convicted of this offence faces a maximum jail term of ten years. The suspect will also be remanded for further investigations.
Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Tan Hung Hooi, commended his officers for their perseverance, good investigative follow-up and well-coordinated ground operations which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
