The Police have arrested a 30 year-old man who is believed to have robbed a taxi driver in August this year.
On 8 August 2010 at about 3.10am, the Police were informed of a taxi robbery at Teban Gardens. Investigations revealed that the suspect had boarded the taxi at St James Power House and directed the taxi driver to Teban Gardens. Upon arriving at Teban Gardens, the suspect , who was seated behind the taxi driver, placed a sharp object at the taxi driver’s back and demanded for cash. He then made away with the taxi driver's earnings amounting to about $186.
Through extensive follow up investigations and enquiries, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to establish the suspect’s identity. On 27 September 2010 at about 9.00 pm, the suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Clementi Ave 5.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 29 September 2010 at 9 am for the offence of Armed Robbery, an offence under section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code. If convicted, he faces an imprisonment term up to 14 years and shall be liable to a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
Commander of Clementi Police Division HQ, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong, commended his officers for their resourcefulness and good investigative follow-up which led to the arrest of the suspect.
