Police have arrested a 54-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for at least 15 cases of break-ins at the Jalan Membina, Redhill Close, Strathmore, Dover Close and Jurong West housing estates.
Though there were little leads to work on, officers from Clementi Police Division persevered and continued to pursue all possible leads. Through extensive investigative work, the officers' efforts paid off when they managed to establish the identity of the suspect. On 29 September 2010 at about 3.00 pm , the suspect was placed under arrest at Havelock Road .
The suspect will be charged in Court on 1 October 2010 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 458A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. A person convicted of this offence faces a maximum imprisonment term of 10 years and is also liable for caning .
Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong commended the officers for their perseverance and good investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the suspect .
