Police have arrested a 23-year old male Chinese suspected to be responsible for a series of Outrage of Modesty cases in the vicinity of Tampines Ave 1 and Tampines St 81 between May and October this year. He would sneak up on unsuspecting female victims and flee immediately after molesting them.
Following extensive ground enquiries and investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division laid an ambush for the suspect, who was eventually sighted and arrested on 9 Oct 2010 at about 7.45pm .
The suspect will be charged in Court on Monday 11 October 2010 for the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 2 years and will also be liable to caning.
Deputy Commander of Bedok Police Division HQ, Superintendent Wilson Lim, commended his officers for their resourcefulness and good investigative skills which led to the arrest of the suspect.
Police would like to advise members of the public to be alert and attentive to the surroundings, especially when they are alone. If they find that they are being followed by any suspicious characters, they should approach a crowded area.
