Airport Police Division
KEY HIGHLIGHTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN FY 2006
Operational Efficiency
Airport Police Division (APD) was involved in numerous contingency exercises and major operations in FY 2006. One such operation was the IMF-WB Board of Governors Annual
Meetings 2006 or S2006. During this operation, APD successfully mounted a large-scale deployment at Changi Airport to provide security coverage for the delegates, maintain law and order, and support other security agencies’ operations.
In October 2006, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) conducted an audit on Changi Airport’s security regime. Changi Airport was complimented for having high security standards and this was a testament of APD’s relentless effort to uphold Changi Airport as the world’s safest airport.
At the frontline operations, APD officers continued to demonstrate high vigilance to safeguard Changi Airport. In FY 2006, APD’s Security Screening Unit (SSU) officers detected 320,234 prohibited items. Several joint-intelligence operations were also mounted, leading to several good arrests. One noteworthy case was the arrest of two men involved in a series of thefts from motor vehicles at Changi Airport.
Resilience Building
APD was graded ‘A’ in the Unit Award Scheme (UAS) for three consecutive years. In recognition of their contribution towards the division’s success, APD officers and their family members were rewarded with many welfare activities such as team-building trips and Family Day at SAFRA Yishun.
Winning Accolades
APD officers remained committed to providing good service to the airport community. In FY 2006, APD officers bagged 34 national Excellent Service Awards (EXSAs), including a SuperStar award by Sergeant Abdyllah Bin Juma’at – the highest EXSA award given out for outstanding service. In addition, APD was awarded two Platinum Awards by the Community Chest for its outstanding contributions to the SHARE Programme.

Creating Security Awareness
To raise flight passengers’ awareness on the prohibited and controlled items in Singapore, APD has produced the ‘How NOT to Ruin Your Holiday’ pamphlets for distribution at the airport. APD and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) have also produced a security awareness video to educate the airport staff on security-related matters such as handling of unattended bags.
PLANS FOR FY 2007
FY 2007 will see a further expansion of APD’s roles and responsibilities, with the completion of Terminal 3. Security projects such as the Regulated Cargo Agent Regime (RCAR), Airport Pass Computerised System 3 (APCS3) and Centralised CCTV System will be scheduled for roll out in FY 2007. While APD continues to fight crime and terrorism at the airport, it will also work on developing its officers’ competencies, cultivating officers’ passion through enhancing resilience, and reaping synergies in partnership with the airport community. APD, as the vanguard for civil aviation security, will strive towards its Shared Vision to be an aviation security specialist.
