Bedok Police Division –
Getting Close to the Action
Bedok Police Division was proud to
announce an almost 9% drop in offences
within its jurisdiction. This was made
possible by our partnerships with the
community and the hard work of our
dedicated officers.
A Tight Rein on Crime
The success of Bedok Police Division (‘G’
Division) in lowering the crime rate is
largely a result of our two-pronged strategy
– enhancing our operational capabilities
through close collaboration with the
Divisional Investigation branch, the
Operations and Intelligence branches, and
the Neighbourhood Police Centres (NPCs),
as well as strengthening community
partnerships to prevent and detect crime.
Prominent criminal cases solved as a result
of such cooperation were highlighted
in our Golf Electronic Magazine (GEM)
– a move to further promote a culture of
collaboration.

Utilising Innovation,
Enhancing Capabilities
FY 2007 was a year of many firsts for
‘G’ Division. As part of SPF’s Business
Continuity Plan (BCP), we made Geylang
Neighbourhood Police Centre our
alternative Divisional Headquarters in
April 2007.
Following the annual Police Day Parade
held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium
on 3 June, we embarked on the planning
and execution of several major security
deployments. Our officers were involved
in the National Day Parade, the Singapore
Air Show and the 13th ASEAN Summit.
For the Summit, we took charge of the
entire vehicle exclusion zone and saw our
largest deployment of 325 ‘G’ Division
officers, comprising regulars, Police
National Servicemen (Full-time) (PNSFs),
Police National Servicemen (PNSmen)
and Voluntary Special Constabulary (VSC)
officers.
To support the deployment needs for these
large-scale events, we adopted several
initiatives to build and extend our internal
capacity to respond. In 2007, the Flexi-
Shift System was implemented to optimise
resources during peak hours.
Additional manpower was fielded from
the off-peak hours and channelled to the
more intensive hours to enhance police
presence and conduct crime prevention
checks. In addition, Office Hours Team
Operations (OTO) were activated to
supplement operations and deployments
when required.
Keeping the Kampung Spirit Alive
‘G’ Division, as part of the Home Team
Eastern Sector, officially launched the
Kampung Spirit@Eunos programme with
the support of the community at Eunos.
Held on 14 July 2007, the programme
grouped agencies and stakeholders under
the Eunos Community Engagement
Organisation, an overarching structure
that allows communities to function with
better coordination during times of peace
or unrest.
We also cemented our partnership with
Temasek Polytechnic through the signing
of a Letter of Intent on 24 August 2007
to officially introduce the Innovative
Framework. With the Framework, the
polytechnic’s students will benefit from
exposure to real scenarios whilst SPF
benefits from the enhancements to its
crime-fighting capabilities.
Our Quest for Excellence
Through our annual Commander’s Parade,
our officers renew their pledge to maintain
a high standard of discipline and service
excellence. In FY 2007, we clinched the Staff
Suggestion Scheme (SSS) Challenge Shield
Trophy for the fourth consecutive year.
At the 58th Annual PSA Sports Meet, our
team of sharp shooters were right on the
mark and brought home the Champion
Trophy for the annual Johor Shield Shooting
Competition, while our runners pulled off
third place amongst the land divisions.
Our officers also took time off to contribute
to the ‘green cause’ by participating in the
Changi Beach Clean Up on 28 June 2007.
We also played our part to save lives by
donating blood during the Blood Donation
Drive on 2 August.
Anticipating New Challenges in
FY 2008
’G’ Division anticipates newer and tougher
challenges in FY 2008, with large-scale
events such as the ASEAN Ministerial
Meeting and with the Singapore Formula
One Grand Prix testing its operational
capabilities in new and challenging ways.
On the community front, we will work
closely with the people around us as well
as other Home Team agencies to enhance
Singapore’s preparedness, whatever the
challenge.
